Realms

How they began...

Gods

The Gods and Goddesses of Merendi, they made and nurture their specific Realm.  They cannot directly affect the life in their realm with out help from a human.  With enough time, patience and concentration they can cause floods, earthquakes, and other phenomenon.  There are 8 of them, one for each Realm.

History of the Realmans:

Originally there was only white, only the Void swirling out in space.  Then a consciousness emerged, bewildered at its own existence in such an odd place.  This was one of the many Gods assigned to various sectors in the Universe.  In fact this God was very much like the God over seeing Earth, Bob, but this was a Goddess, Bobette if u want to call her that.  She was compassionate, forgiving, merciful, wise, all the good God or Goddess stuff.  Except that her strange white habitat made her confused and uncomfortable, in not too long (from the point of view of a Goddess, in human terms it was a few centuries) she went mad.  Specifically, she went skitzo, her mind split into 8 separate beings, not by personality, but by nature.  Her Fiery nature became its own being, as did her Air, Water, and Evil/Dark, then her Earthy nature emerged and split into Forest, Plains, Desert, and Mountains.  Each new demi-god was a piece of her, and soon she stopped existing as a whole connecting them and they each gained their own existences.  As all Gods are likely to do at some point these Gods and Goddesses spent the next whole century marveling that they existed, and at how wonderful and utterly superior they themselves were, even to the point of not realizing the other 7 existed.  At some point they one by one snapped back to reality, still focused on their own nature, and looked around them at the White Void.  This lack of any thing severely depressed them and they spent quite some time immersing them selves in pictures and ideas of what they wished their home was.  Soon enough their Godly powers kicked in and each Deity actually made the home they dreamed about.  They were overjoyed and spent another horrendously long amount of time (by our standards) playing in and shaping their special lands.  They set up large castles in the center of their realms and made many special features everywhere.  Each realm was a perfect sphere around the God or Goddess, and each sphere was the same size because each God had the same power.  Now each Entity thought their realm far better than the other 7 and spent all their time trying to prove it and tempt the other Gods and Goddesses to come live with them, under their rule of course.  Eventually all these attempts failed due to the enormous egos of the Realmans.  Now they began to dream about having their brother and sister Realmans keep them company, and dream about having someone to talk to and enjoy the land with.  So, as it is with all dreams of all Gods and Goddesses, this wish came true.  Humans, the universes smallest, weakest, but most entertaining sentient creatures started appearing everywhere in all the realms.  Now each God and Goddess made exactly the same number of people, and soon they decided they didnt have nearly enough company.  They asked themselves why humans were living in the other inferior Realms when they could live in their Realm.  They set about trying to steal people and strengthened their own barriers around their realm to keep out the other Realmans.  The barriers set against them were strong enough that they had to leave their Realms to leach off the others.  Soon the Realmans got tired and decided to give up for today and go home, and discovered they couldnt.  They had not only blocked the other Realmans out, but themselves as well.  In a panic the Realmans tried to batter their way in, unsuccessfully.  So now, with less control in the Realms, they worked together for the first time ever, to try and regain access to the Realms.  They set up teleportation networks between all the realms (instilling a strong loyalty in their own people so they wouldnt want to stray or move), they spent all their time fighting their own magic and trying to get inside their own defenses, so strong now that they were almost permanent.  One time, when all the Gods and Goddesses were weary from long years of work, the Dark Realman drifted around tapping the other Realmans powers for his own uses.  He took his stolen power and moved his own Realm the farthest in the Void from the others that it could get. He amassed his forces and pushed his way inside his Realm to the Castle, his strong hold.  But he tried to hard, for his power was far great enough to breach the shields, but so concentrated on the castle was he that the castle multiplied and grew and made more rooms and corridors until the whole sphere, top to bottom, was one gargantuan building.  Panicking the shocked God tried to reverse everything, and couldnt, he found that he had used all his powers to reach the Castle, and only the Castle.  The worst thing that he immediately realized washe couldnt leave his realm.  Not only was he stuck in his own barriers, he was part of the Castle now, his mind filled the walls and air and floors.  He was as powerful as he had been before in his land, but now he WAS his landor rather his castle.  Also, the people his powers had created had all lived outside the castle, and had vanished into oblivion when he had broken into his Realm.  But, though he had the powers, he had no energy to use them.  Also, the other Realms mimicked their brother Realm and tried to suck their Keepers into themselves.  In a panic the Realmans spent all the rest of their tapped energy to layer on still more wards on their lands, to keep from being taken in.  The magic the Realms managed to claim swirled around inside the Realms, out of place, for awhile tainting everything.  Soon the very Realm itself cast the pure magic down below, into the ground, where deep in the earth it created a place for itself, an 8th state.  A large cavern that amplifies magic almost as much as the Dark Realm does.  It cannot be reached physically, only by magical phenomenon in caves and cellars.  This new state began in each Realm, connected somehow to the Dark Realm because of a shared extreme of magic.  Soon the people took on more traits resembling their Land, and developed magic Talents, and an ability to use the more physical magic of potions and spells.  Most humans avoided the Dark Realm because they heard that a horrible accident had occurred, what it was they didnt know.  Because in the primal memory of the humans they remembered a time when they had lived with the Gods they continued to worship, and had named their Realman, offering sacrifices and praise.  The humans grew civilized and discovered government and classes and inventions and many other economical devices like money.  So, the Realmans became watchers in the game, and the humans the actual players of the game.  Now and then the Realmans affect some great changes, but never again can they regain their former roles.
